Lactic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid that exfoliates the skin. This 10% formulation provides gentle exfoliation and is supported by purified Tasmanian pepperberry, known to reduce signs of inflammation and sensitivity often associated with exfoliation.

This formula contains a Tasmanian pepperberry derivative studied to help reduce irritation associated with the use of acid. This derivative is plant-derived and its color varies seasonally, and this color variation may appear from time to time in the formula.

The pH of this formula is approximately 3.8. Lactic acid has a pKa of 3.8, and pKa is the most important aspect to consider when formulating with acids. pKa refers to the availability of acid. When pKa is close to pH, there is an ideal balance between salt and acidity, maximizing the effectiveness of the acid and reducing irritation. Higher pH values ​​in this case would increase the salt, making the formula even more irritating than if the formula were more acidic.
