Korean skincare in 10 essential steps

10 key steps to perfect Korean skin.

Step 1: Double cleaning

Essential in your skincare routine, especially at night when your face has accumulated all the impurities, excess sebum and make-up. Start with an oil cleanser for your first cleanse, then follow with a gentle foaming cleanser. The idea is to start with an oil-based cleanser, then use a water-based cleanser, to get the full effect.

Step 2: Exfoliation

This step removes dead cells that dull the skin and clog pores. Don't overdo it, just two or three times a week to avoid irritation, especially if you have sensitive skin.

Step 3: Toning lotion

Traditional toning lotions are sometimes too drying, but in Korean skin care, they have a totally different role. K-beauty toning lotions are formulated with refreshing and moisturizing ingredients (green tea, galactomyces, ginseng,...) and are applied to restore the skin's pH, provide basic hydration and allow better absorption of future products (layering is a key step in achieving glass skin).

Step 4: Add an essence

Essences, which are less concentrated than serums, are generally lighter and more watery. Like targeted treatments, they are formulated to treat skin problems such as pigmentation and redness, but with the added aim of providing mega-hydration.

Step 5: Treatment with serum or ampoule

Ampoules generally contain a higher concentration of versatile active ingredients. These concentrated active ingredients help to nourish the skin, reverse the signs of aging and promote collagen to give firmness, minimize pores or even out skin tone (as required). Some ampoules are only intended for use over a certain period of time (to target skin emergencies); for daily use, use a moisturizing serum with ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, ceramides or vitamin E instead.

Step 6: Fabric masks

They're the easiest way to soothe skin, repair damage, lock in and replenish moisture. In just 10 to 20 minutes, you can enjoy healthier skin and a brighter complexion. We recommend doing this 2-3 times a week.

Step 7: Hydration

Opt for a product that offers maximum hydration and will seal in all layers. Look for nourishing botanical extracts, powerful moisturizers and antioxidants.

Step 8: Apply eye cream

You won't get perfect skin if you have dry patches and bags under the eyes, as this area tends to be drier than the rest of the face.

Step 9: Seal with facial oil (evening only)

Adding a facial oil is the final step in your routine. Not only does it nourish your skin and seal in moisture, it also protects against daily stresses that destroy the skin barrier. Whatever you choose, remember that it should always be the last step!

Step 10: Use sunscreen (mornings only)

If your skin isn't protected from the sun's rays, you can't expect to achieve perfect skin. No matter how many steps you take in your routine, skin that's been badly treated by UV rays won't glow. Sun protection is a must all year round. Think of a light, highly moisturizing formula.
